American Financial Group, Inc. Names New Officers

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 18, 2009-- American Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE:AFG) (NASDAQ:AFG) announced that Brian S. Hertzman and Diane P. Weidner were each named Assistant Vice President of the company.

Mr. Hertzman joined American Financial Group’s Finance Department in 1991 and was promoted to Director of Accounting and Corporate Reporting in 2002 with responsibilities in the area of SEC reporting and GAAP accounting. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and holds an M.B.A from Xavier University.

Ms. Weidner joined American Financial Group’s Finance Department in 1987. Beginning in 1994, she held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at Great American Financial Resources, Inc. including Assistant Vice President of Annuity Accounting. She then joined Great American Insurance Group’s Technology Division in 2000 and was later promoted to Divisional Senior VP prior to assuming the position of Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations in 2006. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and holds an M.B.A from Xavier University. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Ohio (non-practicing). Ms. Weidner serves on the Board of Directors of the Cincinnati Tri-State Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), is an Executive Board Member of the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and is a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
